Why we need soft focus lens?

The MOMO lens gives images a unique glow and a creative look, that can not be created easily using Photoshop. Please check these pictures below for further explanation.

  A) Soft focus picture by MOMO

by MOMO(M) F6.4(soft focus power: maximum)

  B) Sharp picture by modern lens

  C) Soft focus image by Photoshop software

by Photoshop from image B(gauss blur 10 pixels, 20% transparent layer on original image)

Don't you think A is better than C? A is vivid and C looks flat compared with A. You can realize it more in these enlarged pictures.

  C) Soft focus image by Photoshop software(enlarged)

This difference is mainly from the saturation of image sensor. Once you take a digital image, the highlight parts are saturated in the digital data and you cannot get the real soft focus effects from it.

On the other hand, optical lens system has no saturation. In high contrast pictures, the difference between these 2 ways get more remarkable.

You can see the difference between A and C even in such reduced pictures. You can realize more in enlarged pictures.
